Duties and areas of work
1. General duties
The general task of the Department of Soil Biogeochemistry and Optimization of the Chemical and Physico-chemical State of Soils is the comprehensive study of the chemical, physico-chemical and biogeochemical state of the soils of Uzbekistan, the development of the scientific basis for preserving and increasing soil fertility, the assessment of soil degradation, desertification, salinization and dehumification, and the development of effective agrotechnologies to prevent them. Other important tasks are studying soil organic matter and humus dynamics under climate change, increasing carbon sequestration in soil, and developing scientific and practical solutions for the efficient use of local mineral and organic resources.
2. Main duties
comprehensive study of the chemical, physico-chemical and biogeochemical properties of soils;
research on soil cation exchange capacity, the composition of exchangeable cations and adsorption properties;
assessing soil organic matter, humus content and stocks, and the group and fractional composition of humus;
studying the total and available forms and fractional composition of phosphorus and potassium in soils;
determining the impact of desertification, degradation, salinization and solonetz formation on the biogeochemical state of soils;
assessing humus dynamics and dehumification under climate change;
developing technologies to increase soil organic matter stocks and sequester carbon;
developing agrotechnological solutions for restoring and maintaining the fertility of degraded soils;
developing technologies for the efficient use of organic and organo-mineral fertilizers and local mineral resources;
assessing the impact of green manure crops, organic materials and biological preparations on soil fertility;
testing research results on farms and agroclusters and introducing them into practice.
Biography
Tolib Tursunniyazovich Berdiev was born on 20 January 1982 in the Angor district of the Surkhandarya region. He graduated from Tashkent State Agrarian University in 2005 and from the National University of Uzbekistan in 2009, specializing in agrochemistry and agricultural soil science. In 2018 he received a PhD in Biological Sciences and in 2021 the title of senior researcher.
He has worked in soil science and agrochemistry research since 2005. He currently heads the Department of Soil Biogeochemistry and Optimization of the Chemical and Physico-chemical State of Soils at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemical Research of the Ministry of Agriculture.
His research focuses on preserving, restoring and increasing soil fertility, assessing the chemical and physico-chemical state of soils, managing salinization and solonetz formation, restoring degraded soils, and the efficient use of organic and organo-mineral fertilizers. His studies cover soils in the Tashkent, Mirzachul, Surkhandarya and Aral Sea regions.
Based on his research, the “agrotechnology for enriching soil with organic matter” was developed and introduced on farms in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Tashkent, Syrdarya and Surkhandarya regions.
He is the author of more than 150 scientific articles, 1 methodological and teaching guide and more than 5 recommendations. He is also actively involved in training researchers: 1 trainee researcher and 2 basic doctoral students work under his supervision. Since 2022 he has served as secretary and member of the scientific council and scientific seminar under the Higher Attestation Commission. In 2024 he completed an internship at Wageningen Academy in the Netherlands and has taken part in projects with international organizations such as FAO, IWMI and UNDP.
