Duties and areas of work
1. General duties
The department’s main goal is to study soil erosion scientifically, to restore, preserve and protect the fertility of eroded soils, and to develop scientific and practical solutions for the efficient, rational and sustainable use of land resources.
2. Main duties
1. Identifying the causes and factors of the destruction, washing out and blowing away of irrigated, rain-fed and pasture soils under natural, technogenic and human influences.
2. Scientific analysis of the types of soil erosion (wind, water and irrigation erosion).
3. Assessing the degree of soil erosion by determining the eroded state of soils.
4. Compiling maps of erosion-prone land and soil erosion for pasture, irrigated and rain-fed areas to enrich the soil data fund.
5. Developing a set of measures to prevent the negative impact of soil erosion and to protect agriculture, the environment and land resources.
6. Developing scientific and practical agrotechnological solutions for restoring the fertility of eroded soils and bringing them back into productive agricultural use.
7. Developing methodological guidelines and recommendations on combating wind (deflation), water, gully and irrigation erosion as well as pasture (zoogenic) erosion.
8. Building the research capacity of specialists in soil erosion, protection of eroded soils and restoration of their fertility.
9. Developing rapid, accurate, effective and resource-saving methods for assessing soil erosion and improving them in line with modern methods.
10. Forecasting the negative impact and future consequences of soil erosion and developing a strategy to prevent, limit, combat and protect against it.
Biography
A. QORAYEV: BIOGRAPHY AND SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL WORK
A. Qorayev is a specialist with 20 years of research and practical experience in soil science and agrochemistry, working at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemical Research since 2006.
He began his research career as a postgraduate student in soil science in the institute’s “Soil Fertility Assessment and Management” department. Working as junior researcher, senior researcher and head of department, he has gained extensive experience in research, methodology, organization and management.
A. Qorayev’s research focuses on assessing and managing soil fertility, studying the properties of irrigated and rain-fed soils, identifying soil degradation and erosion, compiling erosion-risk and erosion maps by land block, developing agrotechnologies for restoring the fertility of eroded soils, the rational use of soil and water resources, and improving the productivity of pasture and rain-fed land.
He has been an active co-author of methodological guides and recommendations on assessing the fertility of irrigated and rain-fed soils. Within international cooperation he has also taken an active part in online training and scientific advice for representatives of agricultural research and educational institutions and organizations of Afghanistan.
A. Qorayev makes a worthy contribution to introducing research results into practice, preserving and increasing soil fertility, the efficient and rational use of agricultural land, preventing soil degradation and erosion, and ensuring the country’s food security.
